Diabetes Research Institute Shapes The Future of Treatment

Faster and more effective treatments for diabetes are on the horizon, and Mills-Peninsula’s Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) is leading the charge to get these new products and drugs to market.

Working with companies that manufacture products to treat diabetes, the DRI conducts clinical trials and aids the development process until the offerings are ready to be submitted to the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for approval.

“We’ve helped test and develop many of the diabetes drugs and devices on the market today,” said David Klonoff, M.D., medical director of the DRI.

Avoid Falls to Stay Strong and Healthy as You Age

Staying on our toes, literally, is one of the secrets to maintaining good health as we age. And because bone quality decreases with age, if an older person falls, he or she has a higher risk of bone fracture.

Among older adults, falls are the number one cause of fractures, hospital admissions for trauma, loss of independence and injury deaths, according to the National Institute on Aging.

Fractures in older adults can lead down a slippery slope, healthwise. When you fracture a bone, you become more inactive while it heals. This can lead to blood clots and other adverse health issues associated with inactivity. Therefore, it’s important to take steps to prevent falls from happening in the first place.

“Obstetrics” Airs on Mills-Peninsula Healthpoint TV

We’re pleased to let you know that our newest episode of Healthpoint TV, “Obstetrics,” has been added to the Peninsula TV line-up. This episode features our OB/GYN physicians, the new Family Birth Center and some adorable, young Mills-Peninsula patients. Topics in this new episode include pregnancy questions and answers, high risk pregnancies, prenatal testing, diet and exercise tips for expectant moms, and more!

The “Obstetrics” episode is now airing in rotation with the previous episodes of Healthpoint TV on the Bay Area’s Channel 26 at the following times:

·       Monday – Saturday: 11 a.m.
·       Daily:  5:30 p.m.
·       Monday – Friday: 9:30 p.m.
